START Your master asks you for beer. [[get the beer]] [[walk to master]] GET THE BEER <<set $beer = true>> you got the beer WALK TO MASTER <<if $beer eq true>> you get a pat on the head, and promise of less beatings <<else>> *crack!!* you whimper as your master scolds you for approaching him without beer <<endif>> the variables never work right, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have tried <<if $beer = true>> as well and it changes it but still doesn't work right. the passage with the "if" always only displays one of the two messages weather or not the variable has been changed. It changes when I change the "eq" to "=" like I said before. also the <<back>> macro just plain doesn't work. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my copy of twine. the only way I ever get twine to work is if I download the msvcp71.dll file seperately and put it in myself, so I'm thinking that might have something to do with this, but I don't know. please help. I love Porpentine's games and I feel like this is a perfect outlet for me, but I really want the variable text to work, and it's been pretty frustrating. also www.auntiepixelante.com/twine/ that site and gimcrackd.com/etc/doc/#code,if that site seem to say different ways of variable text so I'm wondering my none of them work. anyway please help
